Nalagarh IED blast terrorist module busted: Key accused arrested, foreign links emerge
Shimla/ Nalagarh, Feb 23,
Punjab Police has dismantled a terrorist module linked to the January 1, 2026 IED (RDX) blast at Nalagarh, marking a key breakthrough in the investigation into the attack.
The development marks a crucial step in uncovering the network behind the attack that had raised serious concerns over cross-border terror activities in the region.
Acting in a coordinated operation, teams from Jalandhar and SAS Nagar (Mohali) police arrested two key operatives identified as Mahavir alias Kaka and Manpreet alias Mani, both residents of SAS Nagar. Their arrest is being seen as pivotal in piecing together the operational chain behind the Nalagarh explosion.
During searches, police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol along with live cartridges, indicating the group’s preparedness for further violent activities. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were operating under the direction of a foreign-based handler, pointing to a wider international nexus.
Investigating agencies have revealed that the duo was in touch with foreign-based operatives Gopi Navnasharia and Jassi Kulam, who are believed to have links with the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Officials said the accused had procured a consignment of explosives, including IEDs (RDX) and hand grenades, on instructions from these handlers.
One of the IEDs from this consignment was allegedly used in the blast at the Nalagarh police station earlier this year.
Police sources confirmed that six other individuals connected to the case had already been arrested earlier for their roles in the collection, logistics, and transportation of the explosive material. With the latest arrests, authorities claim that the entire module involved in the Nalagarh blast has now been exposed.
Senior officials emphasized that dismantling such terror networks remains a top priority, particularly in light of emerging patterns linking local operatives with foreign-based handlers. They reiterated that sustained operations against terrorism and allied threats, including drug trafficking, will continue with full intensity.
Multiple FIRs have been registered, and further investigations are underway to trace the broader network, financial links, and any additional sleeper cells that may be operating in the region.
