Shimla, Sept 10,
The Director General of Police, Atul Kumar, on Monday refuted allegations of foreign involvement in the construction of the Sanjauli mosque, located on the outskirts of the state capital.
Addressing a press conference, the DGP stated that security agencies had thoroughly investigated the matter and found no evidence to support these claims. He clarified that the individuals residing in the mosque and the state capital were all Indian citizens and were not involved in any unlawful activities. Additionally, the DGP dismissed the controversy surrounding the birth dates of some youth, which had been raised on social media.
Following calls for the mosque’s demolition by right-wing organizations, the state government has strengthened security around the religious site. The DGP emphasized that law and order would be maintained, and any disputes regarding illegal construction would be resolved through legal channels. He also mentioned that concerned Junior Engineers had submitted affidavits to the Shimla Municipal Corporation court, and will be providing measurements of the unauthorized construction, this week.
Recently, Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh had raised concerns about the presence of Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslims in the state, suggesting the need for stricter registration procedures for people migrating from outside Himachal Pradesh. The minister’s statement prompted the DGP to clarify the situation.
It’s worth noting that the issue of foreign migration and illegal settlements is not confined to Shimla. A significant number of foreigners are also present in other parts of the state, such as Kasol area in Kullu and McLeodganj area in Dharamshala.
