Around 50-55 activists from National Students Union of India (NSUI, Congress affiliated student union) today lodged protest against the Congress disqualified MLAs Ravi Thakur at Ashiana resturant on the Ridge ground in Shimla.
On Tuesday Rajyasabha members Harsh Mahajan, Ravi Thakur and Balveer Verma were addressing a press conference in Ashiyana restaurant when around 55 activists of NSUI, who were in the area for a blood donation camp at Ridge suddenly rushed towards Ashiyana restaurant and lodged protest accusing the Ravi Thakur of ditching the Congress government in the state and joining BJP on Saturday.
For 15 minutes the situation remained tense as NSUI activists shouted slogans against the rebel former MLA Ravi Thakur. To ensure the safety of Thakur was removed from the spot and taken inside the restaurant to avoid any further confrontation.
The police forces and CRPF jawan immediately took control of the situation and two groups was dispersed after the intervention of the media persons and police jawans.
Earlier to this Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also attended blood donation camp of NSUI on the Ridge ground.
According to the spokesperson of BJP Karan Nanda said that MLA is safe and after minor exchanges and slogans shouting the situation was brought under control. He said that BJP would urged the party high command to not withdraw the CRPF security around the six disqualified MLAs untill the election process is not completed
He said that on a call the SP Shimla promptly sent police forces to control the untoward incident, however BJP decided not to lodge a complaint to ECI so far.
According to the Congress Shimla Rural committee leader Chandershakhar Sharma it was sudden reaction from the NSUI activists as they saw the rebel former MLA in the premises of Ashiana and lodged immediate protest.
