Shimla, Nov 21,
In the remote Pangi valley of Chamba district local leaders, Kalyan Singh Thakur and Satish Kumar Rana, continue their hunger strike demanding urgent attention to critical issues plaguing their region.
As per a video shared by a local journo, on Thursday, a significant number of Pangi residents gathered outside the Resident Commissioner’s office to voice their solidarity and protest against the government’s alleged indifference.
The protesters raised slogans, highlighting their concerns over rising Balan wood prices, deteriorating infrastructure, and unreliable heli-transportation services, particularly during the harsh winter months.
Also as per information the health of both hunger strikers may have reportedly deteriorated, with fluctuations in blood pressure and sugar levels. Despite appeals from local authorities, the leaders remain steadfast in their resolve, insisting on written assurances from the government before ending their protest.
Pangi Kalyan Sangh, a local organization, has extended its support to the hunger strikers, vowing to join the protest if the government fails to address their demands. The organization’s president, Panchhi Lal Thakur, emphasized the legitimacy of the protesters’ concerns and the potential impact on the region’s well-being.
Local authorities have taken steps to monitor the health of the hunger strikers and have conveyed their demands to the state government. The Tribal Development Minister has reportedly issued directives to relevant departments to address the concerns regarding Balan wood and timber prices. However, the protesters remain skeptical and are determined to continue their protest until tangible action is taken.
