Shimla, Oct 31,
A paragliding accident in Bir-Billing, a renowned paragliding site in Himachal Pradesh, has claimed the life of a Belgian pilot in his mid-sixties. The incident occurred on Tuesday as pilots were practicing for the upcoming Paragliding World Cup 2024.
The fatal collision took place mid-air between two paragliders who had taken off separately from Billing in Kangra district. While one pilot, identified as Feyarets, tragically lost their life, the other sustained injuries and was rescued from the trees.
This is not the first such incident in the region. Last year, a Polish paraglider, Andrez, also perished during a solo flight from Bir-Billing.
In light of these unfortunate events, the Kangra District Superintendent of Police, Shalini Agnihotri, has issued directives to register paragliders, enforce designated flight routes, and prohibit flying over restricted and military areas. Additionally, plans are underway to install special towers in high mountains to aid in locating crash sites in case of future accidents.
