Himachal Pradesh Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested a woman Patwari for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs One lakh from a local resident in Barotiwala area of Solan district.
The accused, identified as Lalita, is posted at the Barotiwala Patwar Circle. According to the Vigilance Bureau, she had allegedly demanded the money from the complainant in return for issuing a land value certificate.
The complainant approached the Vigilance Department and reported the alleged demand. Acting on the complaint, the investigating agency verified the allegations and laid a trap to catch the Patwari red-handed.
As part of the operation, the complainant was sent to the Patwari with the bribe money. When the money was allegedly handed over to Lalita, the Vigilance team immediately intervened and arrested her.
The Bureau has registered a case against the accused Patwari under relevant provisions of the anti-corruption law and initiated further investigation. She is scheduled to be produced before a court today.

The arrest has also prompted action by the Revenue Department. Officials have initiated a departmental inquiry into the allegations against the Patwari. She is also likely to be placed under suspension pending the outcome of the inquiry.
The Vigilance Bureau is investigating whether the accused had demanded or accepted money in connection with any other official work. Further details are expected to emerge during the investigation and court proceedings.
