Shimla, Aug 15,
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has directed a investigation over the recent landslide at the entrance of an under-construction 4 lane tunnel in Chalaunthi, near Sanjauli on the Kaithlighat Fourlane. ADM Law and Order, Ajit Bhardwaj, has been appointed to lead the inquiry.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the landslide occurred unexpectedly on August 13 at the tunnel’s mouth. The ADM will thoroughly examine the incident to determine its cause, whether it was due to human error, negligence by officials, or lapses by the contractor. The investigation report will include all relevant details about the incident.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the report is expected within two weeks and that worker safety is a top priority. He also stressed the importance of adhering to construction standards and ensuring the safety of the public, which has prompted the initiation of this investigation.
Noteworthy that on Tuesday, August 13 morning, an under-construction 4-lane tunnel in Shimla collapsed. As per information, on Monday evening, workers had noticed that some stones and soil had begun to fall inside the tunnel. As a precaution, all the workers and machinery were evacuated before the collapse. NHAI Project Manager Achal Jindal had reported that debris had accumulated where the tunnel’s portal was being constructed. The process of reinforcing the portal was underway when a landslide triggered by heavy rains caused the collapse.
