Public concerns rise as both political parties stay mum on recent High court directives about shifting HP DGP & SP Kangra?
Shimla, Dec 28
In a recent development, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has passed an order accusing the State government of turning a blind eye to the complaint of businessman Nishant Kumar Sharma. The court directed the state regarding the postings of Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu and Superintendent of Police Kangra Shalini Agnihotri.

Yet, surprisingly, the opposition BJP, including former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and BJP state president Rajiv Bindal, has adopted a complete silence on the issue. Reportedly, the Leader of Opposition Thakur had a meeting with Himachal Pradesh Governor in this regard, but no press release was issued, leaving the public in the dark regarding their stance on the matter.
The High Court’s observations have created a stir in the power circles, particularly as it involves the potential removal of DGP Sanjay Kundu just months ahead of his superannuation. The court explicitly mentioned that there is prima facie sufficient material showing that the Kangra SP did not file an FIR on the businessman’s complaint until 16 days after the HC took cognizance.

Pertinent to mention here that the same DGP had served in the previous BJP led Chief Minister’s Office also. Then a paper leak case occurred in the Himachal Pradesh Police. The BJP’s silence embarks questions about whether the party is defending the police officer and avoiding potential embarrassment?
“Both BJP and Congress, along with their governments, seem to maintain a steady quiet on the issue, suggesting a peculiar unity on this matter,” stated a leftist leader.
The recent High Court comments about the government turning a blind eye extends beyond the current case, indicating broader issues. Common citizens on coffee table gossips state that the silence from both political parties indicates that they are using the police force for political gains, raising questions about the force’s impartiality and commitment to public interest.

Former Dy Mayor of Shimla and leftist leader Tikender Panwar stated that the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation into these matters becomes apparent.
