Shimla, Nov 9,
The State intelligence department has termed the alleged missing ‘Samosa and cake enquiry’ as internal matter. In a media note they stated,” It has come to the notice of this office that news/posts are being shared on some electronic/print and social media regarding internal matters of the State Intelligence Department. “Intelligence Department is a disciplined organization of Himachal Pradesh and this is an internal matter of the State Intelligence Department, and it has nothing to do with the government, clarified the police wing.
Noteworthy that the matter pertains to a minor incident which took place on October 21. As per multiple media reports what initially appeared to be an innocent mistake in delivering refreshments was termed as anti-government” allegations, in an inquiry report conducted by the Himachal Pradesh CID. The issue drew traction due to the presence of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as the matter spiraled into a major controversy, drawing political attention.
BJP spokesperson Randhir Sharma seized on the incident, issued a media statement accusing the Sukhu administration of misusing state machinery to probe minor lapses, labeling the investigation a “waste of government resources.” Sharma argued that while the government was “indulging in the privileges of power,” its priorities were misplaced, allowing such trivialities to distract from pressing issues in the state. He pointed out that the probe into the incident was undertaken solely to shield the government from scrutiny, diverting attention from more critical governance concerns.
“ On 21st October 2024, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh visited the State Intelligence Department office to inaugurate the 1930 Helpline Data Centre and hold a meeting with senior officials of the State Intelligence Department,” stated the CID media communique. Adding, “After the successful inauguration and meeting with the officials, a debriefing session was held at the office of Director General of Police State Intelligence Department regarding the visit. During this session, an officer drew attention to the refreshment arrangements, especially the food items brought from the tourism department and from outside.” Further stating, “It came to notice that some food items were not served to the Hon’ble Chief Minister. On which the Director General of Police of the Intelligence Department wanted to find out how those eatable items disappeared from the food list,” cleared the CID communication.
As the state police wing clarifies and the opposition continues firing barbs, the “samosa controversy” has yet again highlighted the highly charged political climate in Himachal Pradesh, where even minor missteps can quickly become the focal point of public debate.
