The Government of Himachal Pradesh has ordered an immediate bureaucratic reshuffle following the retirement of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena on September 30, with Sanjay Gupta, IAS (HP:1988), being given the additional charge of Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The senior-most IAS officer, Sanjay Gupta, has been posted as Additional Chief Secretary (Town & Country Planning and Housing) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, relieving Devesh Kumar, IAS (HP:1998) of these charges. Crucially, the notification, dated October 1{st}, 2025, also specifies that Sanjay Gupta will hold the additional charge of the post of Chief Secretary.
This appointment comes after the superannuation of the previous Chief Secretary, Prabodh Saxena, whose six-month extended term concluded on September 30, leaving the top administrative post temporarily vacant.
The notification, issued by the Department of Personnel, Appointment-I, also includes other significant changes; Kamlesh Kumar Pant, IAS (HP:1993), is now designated as Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh-cum-Financial Commissioner (Revenue), along with holding the charges of Additional Chief Secretary (Forest, Home & Vigilance), Financial Commissioner (Appeals), and Chairman, H.P. State Pollution Control Board, Shimla.
Onkar Chand Sharma, IAS (HP:1994), Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Development), will hold the additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation Ltd., Shimla.
The previous transfer order for Sanjay Gupta to be Chairman of the H.P. State Pollution Control Board and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation Ltd., stands superseded by the new posting.
