Shimla, Kangra, Una were noted amongst top performers in Challaning Traffic Violations. Himachal Pradesh Police, under the leadership of Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma, recently concluded a 15-day special drive targeting overloading and traffic violations. The campaign, which ran from November 18 to December 2, 2024, aimed to enhance road safety and reduce accidents, informed ASP Narvir Singh Rathour.
He said that during the drive, authorities inspected over 52,231 vehicles and issued 1840 challans worth ₹4.9 lakh. Key violations included overloading in commercial vehicles, transporting goods beyond permissible limits, passenger overloading in public transport, and illegal passenger transport in goods vehicles.
The Government Railway Police Station, Shimla, emerged as the top performer by issuing 325 challans for passenger overloading, he informed. Adding that, district Kangra took the lead in addressing overloading in commercial vehicles with 132 challans. District Una excelled in detecting and challaning 31 cases of passengers transported in goods vehicles. In terms of overall violations, Districts Una and Mandi topped the list with 18 and 22 challans, respectively, informed the ASP.
Breaking up the violations 34 were cases of vehicles without insurance, 173 cases of overloading in commercial vehicles, 92 cases of material protruding outside vehicles, 1490 cases of passenger overloading in public transport, and 85 cases of passengers transported in goods vehicles.
The campaign has been lauded for its positive impact on road safety, raising public awareness, and encouraging safe transportation practices, hoped Rathour. It has also contributed to protecting road infrastructure and preventing accidents, he concluded.
