Shimla/Chamba, Nov 27,
BJP MLA Hans Raj, representing the Churah constituency in Chamba district, received major relief on Thursday after the Special Judge, Chamba, confirmed his regular bail in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court had earlier granted him interim anticipatory bail until November 27, with the matter listed for detailed hearing today. Following arguments from both sides, the court confirmed his bail, effectively protecting him from arrest as the investigation continues.
The case against the legislator stems from allegations first made in August 2024, when the victim filed a police complaint accusing him of obscene chats, demands for nude photographs, personal threats, and pressure. An FIR under relevant sections was lodged at the Chamba Women’s Police Station on August 16, 2024.
However, after her statement was recorded in the Churah court, the victim later retracted the allegations, going live on social media to claim that her earlier statement was made under mental stress, misunderstanding, and influence. The matter eventually subsided.
The controversy resurfaced on November 7, 2025, when the victim again approached police, this time filing a fresh complaint under the stringent POCSO Act. A day earlier, her father had lodged another FIR on November 6, alleging threats and intimidation. Alongside this, the victim uploaded a seven-minute emotional video on social media, claiming her family’s life was in danger and accusing the MLA of ‘‘ruining’’ her life.
In response, MLA Hans Raj dismissed the allegations as a politically motivated conspiracy. In his video message, he said the complainant had previously withdrawn such claims before ‘‘three judges’’ and accused her of attempting to incite communal tensions. He questioned her lifestyle choices in a statement that later drew widespread criticism. He also announced plans to file a defamation suit.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father, accompanied by Congress leader Yashwant Khanna, alleged during a press conference in Chamba that after last year’s court statement, the MLA’s associates kidnapped them, forcibly took them to Shimla, broke their mobile phones, and threatened to burn down their house.
With the bail now confirmed, the case will move forward as the police continue their investigation under POCSO.
