Shimla, May 23
Rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours, bringing considerable relief from the prevailing hot weather during night and early morning hours. However, sweltering heatwave conditions continued to affect many lower and mid hill regions during the daytime.
According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, minimum temperatures in many parts of the state declined by three to four degrees following widespread summer showers and thunder activity.
The average minimum temperature in the state remained 0.3 degrees below normal, while several stations recorded a sharp fall in mercury during the last 24 hours.
Sarahan in Shimla district recorded the highest rainfall of 15.5 mm, followed by Kalpa 13.4 mm, Manali 10 mm, Kukumseri 10 mm, Bhuntar 9.8 mm, Keylong 7 mm, Mandi 4.2 mm, Bilaspur 3 mm, Shimla 2.2 mm, Sundernagar 2.1 mm, Solan 1.8 mm, Dharamshala 1.3 mm, Kufri 1 mm, Neri 0.5 mm, Kangra 0.4 mm, Palampur 0.2 mm, while Jubberhatti recorded trace rainfall.
Despite intermittent showers, daytime temperatures continued to remain high in several places. Paonta Sahib remained hottest in the state with a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius during the night, followed by Neri 23.4 degrees, Bilaspur 22.5 degrees, Dehra Gopipur 22 degrees, Nahan 20.9 degrees, Una 20.5 degrees, Jubberhatti 20 degrees and Kangra 19.7 degrees.
Minimum temperature of Shimla was 19 degrees, Dharamshala 18.8 degrees, Mandi 18.7 degrees, Palampur 18.5 degrees, Chamba 18 degrees, Berthin 17.5 degrees, Sundernagar 17.1 degrees, Solan 16.6 degrees, Kufri 15.8 degrees, Bhuntar 13.5 degrees, Sarahan 13.2 degrees, Dalhousie 11.2 degrees, Manali 10.2 degrees, Kalpa 6.4 degrees, Keylong 6 degrees, Kukumseri 5.3 degrees and Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.8 degrees Celsius.

The weather office stated that thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds is likely to continue at isolated places during the next couple of days. Meanwhile, humid conditions and rising daytime mercury are likely to keep heatwave-like conditions prevailing in the lower hills and adjoining plains of the state.
