Shimla, Sept 27,
The southwest monsoon is on the verge of withdrawing from Himachal Pradesh. Forecasters anticipate primarily dry conditions starting tomorrow, September 28, 2024. However, isolated instances of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are still possible.
Recent rainfall and impact
Several areas have experienced substantial rainfall in the past 24 hours. Joginder Nagar in Mandi and Palampur received 80mm of rain, Dharamshala 50 mm, Paonta 50 mm, Shimla and Dehra Gopipur 30 mm, Nadaun, Dharampur and Kasauli 20 mm, Nahan and Pandoh recorded 10 mm. This precipitation has led to road closures and disruptions across the state. Forty-seven roads are currently blocked due to heavy rains, primarily in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur. Major routes, including Dharamshala to Juel and Bagipul to Jaon Chail, are among those affected. Additionally, NH-707 near Sataun remains closed due to landslides.
Temperature trends
Minimum temperatures have seen minimal changes, while maximum temperatures have decreased significantly from recent record highs. Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 08.2°C, while Una experienced the highest maximum at 33.2°C. Average minimum temperatures were above normal, but maximum temperatures remained within the normal range.
Looking ahead
As the monsoon retreats, dry autumn weather is expected to bring some relief. However, the state will need to prioritize repairs to blocked roads and damaged infrastructure in the coming days
