Tensions may rise as Himachal Pradesh Government serves Show Cause Notices to Union leaders amid DA demand dispute

Tensions between the Himachal Pradesh government and its employees may escalate following the State’s decision to issue show cause notices to leaders of the Secretariat Service Employees Union. This move could potentially ignite widespread dissatisfaction among state employees.
The dispute centers around the demand for three pending installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) dating back to January 2023. Despite repeated appeals, the Sukhu government has delayed these payments, causing growing frustration among state employees. The Secretariat Service Employees Union, led by President Sanjeev Sharma, has been vocal about the government’s reluctance to address their grievances, even accusing the administration of mismanagement.
Union leaders argue that while they are simply demanding their rightful dues, the government is retaliating by issuing show cause notices instead of resolving the employees’ legitimate concerns.
The timing of these notices, coinciding with the ongoing assembly session, has raised concerns among employees. “The government’s action is baffling, especially during such a crucial time,” remarked one employee, echoing the sentiments of many others.
A round of discussions between the Union and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was held earlier, but no concrete solutions were reached. With the government now signaling potential arrests of protesting employees, the situation remains tense.
