In a major breakthrough, Lahaul–Spiti Police have arrested three cyber fraudsters from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during an inter-state operation linked to an online cheating case registered under FIR (No. 02/25) at Keylong Police Station.
The case, filed on 3 January 2025 under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, has seen swift progress with coordinated efforts across multiple states.
According to an official statement issued on 8 December 2025, the investigation team apprehended Azharullah from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, recovering Rs 49,927 from him; Ramswaroop Meghwal from Rajasthan, with a recovery of Rs 47,927; and Thakor Mehal Re Sangji from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from whom another Rs 47,927 was seized. The total recovery so far amounts to Rs 1,45,781.
Police have also initiated coordination with Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station in Srinagar to verify the identity and address of another suspect, Arshid Nazir, and to facilitate further questioning. Officials said efforts are continuing to uncover remaining facts and identify any additional accomplices involved in the cyber fraud network.
Lahaul–Spiti Police have urged citizens to remain alert against cyber crimes. They advised the public not to share sensitive information such as bank details, OTPs, passwords, Aadhaar numbers or personal data with unknown callers or links. People have also been cautioned against fraudulent investment offers, fake government scheme claims, job scams, lotteries or prize notifications.
Residents have been advised to use only authorised digital payment platforms and avoid granting screen-sharing or remote access to strangers. In case of suspicious activity, citizens may contact the National Cyber Helpline at 1930 or report immediately to the nearest police station, the statement added.
