Vinay Kumar on Dharampur row: ‘Gundagardi’ charge as Delhi–Himachal police clash over Youth Congress
Shimla, Feb 25,
As the fallout of the Dharampur police face-off widens, the political battle has now escalated, with Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) President Vinay Kumar launching a strong offensive against the Centre.
Reacting to the controversial detention of three Youth Congress leaders from Rohru, Vinay Kumar warned the Modi-led central government against what he termed as attempts to “disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Himachal Pradesh.”
He said Himachal is a major tourist destination and “yahan aane wale hamare mehmano ka apmaan bilkul bardasht nahi kiya jayega.”
Calling the actions of Delhi Police “serious and illegal,” the HP Congress chief alleged that the three Youth Congress leaders were taken into custody in Rohru and an attempt was made to shift them to Delhi without following due legal procedure.
“Modi sarkar ki yeh gundagardi Himachal bardasht nahi karega,” he said, strongly condemning the move.
Vinay Kumar also praised the Himachal Pradesh Police for intervening in Dharampur and securing the release of the detained Youth Congress workers from Delhi Police custody. He termed the action of the state police as “appropriate and necessary.”
Escalating his attack further, he accused the Centre of adopting “damanakari neetiyan” (repressive policies) to suppress the voice of the youth across the country.
“In neetiyon se na log darne wale hain aur na hi Youth Congress,” he asserted, adding that such attempts to silence dissent would fail.
The HP Congress President also alleged that the BJP-led central government was functioning in a “tanashahi” (dictatorial) manner and warned that the Congress would not tolerate any such approach in Himachal Pradesh under any circumstances.
The statement comes at a time when the Dharampur episode has already triggered a major political and legal debate over inter-state policing norms, with both BJP and Congress trading sharp allegations.
With strong political reactions now pouring in, what began as a policing issue has clearly snowballed into a full-blown political confrontation, further deepening the Centre vs State narrative in the aftermath of the Youth Congress arrest row.
