Paonta Sahib, Oct 3,
Two wild elephants from a neighboring state entered Himachal Pradesh today, creating concern among residents in the Paonta Sahib region. The animals were sighted in the Satiwala Beat of Bahral Block under the Majra Forest Range, officials confirmed.
Following the sighting, the Forest Department has issued a high alert and urged the public to strictly avoid venturing into forested areas. “Residents should exercise utmost caution, and if entry into the jungle is unavoidable, they must never go alone,” officials advised.
To mitigate risks, the department has already put in place safety measures such as installing alarm systems, maintaining advance communication channels with villages in vulnerable zones, and constructing elephant trenches along border areas. These precautions are being monitored round the clock.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Paonta Sahib, Ved Sharma, said the elephants’ movements are being tracked continuously. He appealed to locals to stay away from possible routes of the animals and immediately inform forest officials of any unusual activity.
The department reiterated that human-elephant encounters can be extremely dangerous, and cooperation from the local community is essential to ensure both public safety and the well-being of the animals.
