Bilaspur, May 13
A 36-year-old married woman allegedly ended her life by taking the extreme step in Kyara village under Gram Panchayat Chandpur of Bilaspur Sadar subdivision on Tuesday marking the third reported suicide incident in the Chandpur area within the last four days.
The deceased was identified as Garima, wife of Vivek Kumar, a resident of Kyara village in Chandpur. According to police sources, after taking a bath on Tuesday, the woman went to a room on the second floor of the house while her husband remained in another room.
When she did not come out for a long time, her husband reportedly checked through the latticed door and found her hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan with the help of a dupatta.
Family members immediately brought her down and rushed her to a nearby private hospital. She was later referred to the Regional Hospital Bilaspur, where doctors declared her dead.
On receiving information, a team from Sadar police station reached the hospital, took possession of the body and initiated investigation proceedings. Police said the reasons behind the incident are yet to be ascertained.

A forensic team has also been sent to the spot to collect evidence, while police are awaiting the arrival of the woman’s maternal relatives before carrying out further legal formalities.
Confirming the incident, Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal said police are investigating the matter from all possible angles.
The repeated incidents of suicide in the Chandpur area within a short span have created concern among local residents.
