Shimla, Jan 9,
The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for January 11-12, 2025, warning of significant weather activity in Himachal Pradesh.
A Western Disturbance, coupled with a Subtropical Westerly Jet Stream with winds up to 135 knots, is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall in the low hills and plains from January 11 afternoon to January 12. Mid and high hills, including tourist spots like Shimla, are likely to witness moderate snowfall between the evening of January 11 and the morning of January 13.
Temperature fluctuations are expected, with minimum temperatures rising by 2-3°C and maximum temperatures dropping by 4-5°C, leading to cold day conditions in parts of the state. Dense fog and ground frost, currently prevalent in areas like Bilaspur and Mandi, are likely to subside after January 11.
Travel disruptions, slippery roads, and low visibility pose safety risks. Residents and visitors are advised to dress warmly, limit outdoor activities, and follow travel advisories. Drivers should exercise caution, use fog lights, and remain alert for potential hazards, warned the IMD prediction.
Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, the state experienced dry weather. Kukumseri recorded the lowest temperature at -11.3°C, while Una registered the highest at 23.0°C. Dense fog and ground frost were observed in some areas, with a severe cold wave affecting Una.
Stay prepared and vigilant as the weather system approaches.
