1996 batch IPS Satwant Atwal to hold charge of DGP Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to handover the charge of Director General of Himachal Pradesh Police to 1996 batch female IPS Satwant Atwal Trivedi. This morning the State government posted incumbent DGP as Principal Secretary Ayush, perhaps after the directive passed by Himachal Pradesh High court on December 26. The high court had directed State to shift Sanjay Kundu and Superintendent of police Kangra Shalini Agnihotri to other posts.
Reportedly, after a meeting held at the State secretariat in Himachal Pradesh, Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and Secretary Personnel and home decided to hand over charge of DGP to Satwant Atwal. She has been appointed as acting DGP. Currently Atwal holds the charge of ADGP in State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau and CID.
Replying to media queries regarding shifting of DGP chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu stated that Sanjay Kundu has not been removed but promoted. He did not comment anything on the legal matter, but the government followed the orders of the High Court regarding the complaint against him.
Satwant Atwal Trivedi has the distinction of becoming the first IPS officer from the State of Himachal Pradesh. She also became the first female officer to serve NiA and BSF.
Trivedi has credited to her name a rich saga of her commendable services as a Police Officer in various positions of her cadre of Himachal Pradesh as well as other distinguished police organizations. Furthermore, she has successfully initiated India’s first implementationof Artificial Intelligence in Border Security Force.
She is a gold medalist in Clinical Psychology and in German, she has bagged the meritorious distinction of a Diploma in Investigation and Leadership from FBI National Academy. She has been conferred with the prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service in the year 2012.
