Chandratal lake Spiti
Shimla, June 13,
Enhancing tourist safety during the peak season, the Lahaul-Spiti Police has announced the establishment of a Seasonal Police Check Post (SCP) at Chandertal Lake, effective from June 14, 2025.
Superintendent of Police Lahaul & Spiti, Ilma Afroz, IPS, said in an official press note that the check post will remain active throughout the tourist season. It will play a key role in providing security coverage, emergency assistance, and route-related updates, in addition to promoting safe and responsible tourism in the ecologically sensitive region.
“This seasonal check post will help monitor visitor movement, offer weather updates, and assist tourists in case of any emergency. We urge all visitors to stay in touch with the post and follow the safety guidelines issued by the District Police,” SP Ilma Afroz stated.
The scenic Chandertal Lake in the Spiti Valley attracts thousands of visitors each year, especially during the summer months. Given the area’s remote location and unpredictable weather, the check post is expected to significantly improve response time and visitor support in case of adverse conditions.
The district police have assured full commitment to the safety and well-being of all tourists, and have advised visitors to remain vigilant, cooperative, and to avoid venturing into restricted or risky areas without guidance.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Lahaul-Spiti administration to balance tourism promotion with safety and sustainability in the fragile Himalayan region.
