
Ani(Kullu), April 22
In a tragic road mishap in the Ani area of Kullu district on Saturday, four women teachers lost their lives and three others were injured after a Bolero jeep they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred near Punam Shamsher when a tree fell onto the vehicle during strong winds. The impact caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle rolling down a steep hillside.
Seven persons were travelling in the vehicle. Four of them died in the mishap, while three sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ani.
One of the deceased has been identified as Seema Devi, wife of Jiya Lal and a resident of Ropdi, who succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Banti Devi, wife of Hem Chhat of Baidal Lagisari; Usha, wife of Madan Lal; and Sneh Lata, wife of Tokanand of Tarala.
Local administration and police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated rescue operations. Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region, once again highlighting the risks posed by adverse weather and vulnerable road conditions in hilly areas.
