Himachal Pradesh experienced mainly dry weather in April 2026, interspersed with around seven spells of snowfall, avalanches, and 21 rainy days. According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) monthly weather report, the state recorded its 47th wettest April since 1901.
The state received an average of 66.3 mm of rainfall, which is about 4 p c above the normal of 60 mm for the month.
Among districts, Bilaspur recorded the highest surplus, with 55.4 mm of rainfall, 190% above normal (26.7 mm). Solan followed with 164 p c above normal (87.3 mm against 33 mm), while Sirmaur received 89% more rainfall (59.8 mm against 31.6 mm). Hamirpur saw 86% above normal rainfall (59.6 mm against 32 mm), Shimla was 76% above normal (94.6 mm against 53.7 mm), Mandi recorded 70% above normal (86.6 mm against 51 mm), Una saw 68% above normal (42.4 mm against 25.3 mm), and Kangra recorded 56% above normal (72 mm against 46 mm).
In the past 26 years, April rainfall was highest in 2021 (111.9 mm), followed by 2023 (103.5 mm), 2017 (88 mm), and 2015 (81.8 mm).

Four districts, however, recorded deficient rainfall — Kinnaur had a 47% deficit (40.6 mm against 76.3 mm normal), Lahaul-Spiti also had a 47% deficit (47.5 mm against 74.5 mm), while Kullu and Chamba recorded 10% and 5% deficits, respectively.
The IMD report noted that hailstorms affected Shimla district on April 4, 5, 8, 9, and 30, disrupting normal life and agricultural activity in some areas.
