Shimla, June 6
Bharatiya Janata Party, took a staunch organisational stand to only promote party ‘Karaykarta’ vis a vis ‘Parivarvad’. The party has decided to even embrace defeat and bear the brunt of burnol, to do it. A recent clue about this was given by the Saffron party, which claims to be the world’s biggest political outfit having active membership of 30 crores. They said that the party feels comfortable assuming power only after upholding its internal democracy. And, if need be, they do not hold back from conducting minor or major surgeries.
BJP National President JP Nadda, a member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh, made this statement while addressing queries over a meeting to discuss shortlisting candidates for bye-election.
Referring to a recent Madya Pradesh poll, where results were not favoured BJP, Nadda said that he was told before the election that results could get better if dynastic politics was promoted but refused. ” Tomorrow which party follower will come to us, when only families have to run the show,” the party president stated.
Nadda boosted the defeat, comparing it with minor surgery of party, terming it bearing pain to remove cancer from the body. However, Nadda did not stop here. He gave an example of this rare surgery citing party ticket to ‘Karyakarta’ Neelam Sarkaiak from Jubbal Kotkhai Assembly constituency of Himachal Pradesh, who had forfeited security deposits in a recent bye-election. He said that the party preferred loss instead of Parivarvad.
Pertinent to mention that Chetan Bragta, son of former BJP Minister Narender Bragta who passed away during Covid pandemic, was in the race for the party ticket. Later Congress succeeded in winning the race in which BJP was defeated and poorly managed the third position by getting 2700 votes.
Critics at Coffee house state that, on one hand, the party is inviting opposition members to join and offering tickets, but on the other hand, it was expecting discipline and sacrifices from the workers, which might cost heavily in poll-bound states like Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Both states are highly expected to be locked in a three-corner contest. They feel that Nadda seemed to be indicating those who are aspiring tickets of Çabinet berth on the line of party family affiliation like even former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal, whose son is a Union minister.
Congress party, which took a new stand of one family, one ticket policy in the Udaipur convention, may change the narrative of politics in BJP.
The family clouts in politics and establishments couldn’t be ruled out in Indian politics. A BJP leader told us that it would learn from defeat as the saffron party did not ride to power merely on the potential of ‘Karyakarta’ but also due to coalition politics of liberal party leaders who made their place in the heart and mind of voters.
