As part of the Christmas/New year traffic mgmt. in Shimla, tourists coming to Shimla in their private vehicles but without hotel booking will be stopped near Tutikandi bypass and from thereon will be taken till CTO check through shuttle service. This information was given by Deputy Commissioner Shimla Aditya Negi today while presiding over the meeting called regarding preparations for Christmas and New Year.
Though not clarified by the official spokesperson, but this arrangement will come into effect from this weekend.
Negi directed the HRTC to make preparations for shuttle service and Tempo Travellers and Enova vehicles to reach from Tutikandi to CTO. Along with this, shuttle service will be available from CTO to take the tourists back to Tutikandi, which will be available till 11.30 pm.
He said that during these festive days, a large number of tourists come to Shimla and due to this mostly a situation of traffic jam arises in the city. To get rid of this problem, HRTC will start this special shuttle service.
He said that tourists who bring confirmed hotel booking documents will be allowed inside the city. He also said that Shimla town and surrounding areas have been divided into five sectors on the occasion of Christmas and New Year, in which six magistrates and nodal officers of police department have been appointed.
The Deputy Commissioner said that for better management, arrangements have been made for 106 additional police personnel, who are being posted in the police stations as per the requirement. He said that these police personnel will cooperate in traffic management and crowd management.
Aditya Negi said that in case of heavy tourist arrival, tourist vehicles would be diverted from Tutikandi towards Malyana. If necessary, tourists going to Kufri and Naldehra will be diverted towards Shoghi-Dhali bypass road. He said that the jawans posted at Shoghi Police Post would guide the tourists to save them from the jam situation. Tourist buses and heavy vehicles will not be allowed inside the city.
Apart from this, the District Collector also directed the Shimla Municipal Corporation to make adequate lighting arrangements on the roads, paths, ridge, mall road and surrounding areas for the convenience of the tourists.
Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Rahul Chauhan, ASP Sunil Negi, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ashish Kohli, Sub Divisional Magistrate Shimla Urban Bhanu Gupta, officials of various departments and representatives of various organizations related to tourism industry were present in the meeting.
