Three Dead, 38 Injured in various Incidents in past Two days in Himachal Pradesh

In the past two days, a series of incidents in Himachal Pradesh has resulted in 38 injuries and 3 fatalities. Additionally, three livestock were lost, and 34 roads have been reported closed due to record breaking heavy showers.
This morning, a bus accident occurred in the Karsog area of the Mandi district. The ill-fated HRTC bus veered off the road and came to a halt between trees, approximately 300 feet below. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but 36 people sustained injuries, accounting for 90 percent of the total passengers.
According to the Department of Revenue-DM Cell’s daily report, the recent deaths can be attributed to various causes. One fatality occurred in Bilaspur, while two others lost their lives in Kangra, all of which were vehicle accidents.

From March 1, 2023, to June 1, 2023, Himachal Pradesh has experienced significant damage and losses during the pre-monsoon season. The overall toll includes 302 fatalities, 599 injuries, and two missing persons. District-wise data reveals the devastating impact of vehicle accidents, landslides, flash floods, and other unforeseen mishaps.
Bilaspur and Shimla districts witnessed the highest number of casualties during this period, with Bilaspur accounting for 19 deaths and Shimla recording 47. Vehicle accidents were the primary cause, claiming 211 lives across the state, including accidents on water, land, and air.
Chamba suffered a significant loss of life due to landslides, with 21 individuals tragically losing their lives. Accidental drownings accounted for 15 deaths, while fire incidents, snake bites, and electrocutions collectively claimed 10 lives. Falls from trees or steep rocks were responsible for 53 fatalities, highlighting the dangers of venturing into elevated areas.
Other districts also experienced significant impact. Mandi reported 41 deaths, followed closely by Kullu with 29, Sirmaur with 39, and Solan with 39. Although some districts had fewer casualties, it serves as a somber reminder of the risks associated with the pre-monsoon season.
Furthermore, the state has incurred a total loss of Rs. 19,275.04 lakh. The catastrophe has severely affected the agriculture and horticulture sectors, causing extensive damage to crops. The estimated monetary loss for these three months is Rs. 5,492.01 lakh.
