Weather advisory: Himachal Pradesh urged to stay prepared
Shimla, June 22
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Be Prepared’ warning for Himachal Pradesh as the state gears up to face an onslaught of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the coming days. With an orange color alert gracing the weather map, residents are urged to take precautionary measures.
According to the latest IMD data, except for Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur districts, the remaining parts of the state are likely to experience widespread heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on June 25th and 26th. Experts have advised people to make adequate arrangements to protect newly planted vegetation from the direct impact of rain, thunder, and lightning. Farmers have also been cautioned to reschedule the spraying of insecticides to avoid any adverse effects.
The weather advisory further highlights that isolated rainfall may occur in a few places over the next two days, but it is on June 25th that the precipitation is expected to become more widespread. The IMD warns of possible traffic congestion, poor visibility, and disruptions in power supply as a result of these weather conditions. Standing crops and fruit plants are at risk of damage due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
In the past 24 hours, several areas across the state have already experienced varying degrees of rainfall. Jatton barrage recorded a substantial 63 mm of rainfall, followed by Renuka with 56 mm. Shimla received 40 mm, while Pachhad and Dalhousie both received 26 mm each. Other places such as Arki, Solan, Jogindernagar, Rajgarh, Jubbal Hatti, Mashobra, Theog, Kufri, Kasauli, Sangrh, Rohru, Chamba, Kandaghat, Kataula, Nahan, and Chaupal also witnessed moderate rainfall.
Despite the rainfall, there hasn’t been a significant change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, which remain within the normal range. Keylong recorded the lowest temperature at 10.2 degrees Celsius, while Una experienced the highest at a scorching 39.6 degrees Celsius.
As Himachal Pradesh braces for the upcoming weather events, residents and authorities are urged to stay vigilant and make necessary preparations to mitigate potential risks. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as required.
