Himachal Pradesh lifts ban on Safeda, Poplar, Bamboo, and Kuth exports

In a move aimed at boosting the livelihoods of farmers and simplifying trade regulations, the Himachal Pradesh State Government has announced the lifting of export bans on several key tree species. These include Safeda, Poplar, Bamboo, and Kuth (Medicinal Plant), enabling residents of the State to engage in wood export activities without the need for a permit. Furthermore, the intra-state transportation of wood from these species will no longer require permits.
A spokesperson from the State Government elaborated on this landmark decision, explaining that it comes as a substantial relief to farmers in Himachal Pradesh who cultivate these species on a commercial scale. This policy change is expected to provide a significant boost to their income and support local businesses.
Alongwith, the State Government has also relaxed restrictions on the export of other forest products, such as Khair wood, Katha, cedarwood oil, and a variety of native herbs found in Himachal Pradesh. It’s important to note that, while these forest products can be exported, they will still require a valid permit from the Forest Department to leave the State.
In addition to these changes, the Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced the State’s intention to introduce the National Transit Pass System, making Himachal Pradesh the sixth state in India to adopt this technology. This innovative system will enable individuals to obtain various e-permits from the Forest Department, significantly streamlining permit processes, enhancing transparency, and improving overall departmental functionality.
