Synoptic features signal Snow and Rain Spell on Nov 27 in Himachal Pradesh

Synoptic features indicate that a spell of snow and rain could occur on November 27, Monday onwards. Besides leading to a sudden dip in the mercury, weather experts feel that an early advancement of rain/snow may intensify the cold wave in December. They feel this could boost the chances that the State may experience a snowy Christmas and New Year. Sunny hours are scheduled to reduce till December third week thus intensifying the cold wave, they commented.
Though for this week the Indian Meteorological Department forecasts calm weather conditions. Tourists and local travelers who are booked at the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh these days, will experience dry conditions, with pleasant daytime weather expected until November 25. The IMD states that currently, the Northern Western Himalayan states are facing foggy weather in the wee hours, but the minimum and maximum temperatures are mainly normal. Rather the maximum temperature is likely to show a slight improvement in the next two to three days, as per the forecast.
However, next week, a Western disturbance is likely to hit several parts of the Northern Western Himalayan region, bringing a spell of snow and rain starting from November 27 afternoon onwards. Noteworthy that the WDs will start affecting dry weather conditions from November 26, making it partly cloudy to mainly overcast.
According to the IMD synoptic features, the Western disturbances, as a trough in mid-tropospheric levels, now runs roughly along Long. 60°E to the north of Lat. 30°N at 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Talking about next few days, IMD warns drivers and commuters should mind their speed while driving in the hills, as many northwestern states, including plains, are reeling under foggy conditions likely to intensify. Passengers may face delays in the movement of trains and traffic congestion due to the sudden decline in visibility due to foggy weather conditions until the end of this week.
Minimum temperatures stay several degrees below freezing point in tribal areas, with Kaza being the coldest in the state at minus six degrees. It was around minus three in Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul Spiti district, and minus 2.3 in Sumdo, Kalpa in Kinnaur.
Other district minimum temperatures are also showing decline include 2.8 degrees in Manali and Bhuntar airport, 4.8 in Solan, and 5.8 in Mandi and the tourist resort Narkanda. Chamba recorded 7 degrees, while tourist resorts like Kufri, Dalhousie, and Shimla recorded eight degrees. Dharmshala, Kangra, and Shimla airport recorded nine degrees.
