Himachal continues to shivers: Rain and snow prevail, relief forecasted

As expected in the last 24 hours, the state witnessed a widespread and impactful weather scenario with extensive snow.and rain, leading to a notable drop in temperature patterns. The minimum temperatures experienced a considerable decrease, while the maximum temperatures saw a marked fall
Kukumseri reported the lowest temperature at a bone-chilling -6.8°C, in stark contrast to Dehra Gopipur, where the highest temperature peaked at 14.°C. The state observed a cold day on February 4, 2024, affecting various regions, stated a IMD report.
Snowfall was a prominent feature, with significant accumulations reported in various areas. Khadrala received 30.0cm, followed by Manali with 23.6cm, and Narkanda with 20.0cm. Meanwhile, rain played a crucial role in shaping the weather landscape. Sundarnagar, Karsog, and Solan each recorded 6cm of rainfall.
Analyzing synoptic features the report stated that a Western Disturbance manifested as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu Division & Punjab at 3.1 km above mean sea level. A trough aloft in middle tropospheric westerlies, extending roughly along Long. 72°E to the north Lat.32°N, contributed to the prevailing weather conditions. Additionally, jet stream winds of up to 145 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level prevailed over North India, further influencing the weather patterns.
As the weather is expected to remain wet even today, the prediction by IMD stated that likelihood is that skies will turn dry from February 6 onwards till February 11.
