Shimla, Mar 23,
Extending a red-carpet welcome to six Congress disqualified MLAs, BJP stalwart Shanta Kumar expressed profound discontent with the current trajectory of the BJP, lamenting the erosion of political principles and causing ripples in the state’s political landscape today.
A senior leader of the Bhartiya Janata Party in Himachal Pradesh, Shanta Kumar issued a statement today, highlighting the significance of ongoing events amidst the prevailing political climate in the country and the state.
He remarked, Today, the politics of principles seems to be a thing of the past. Mere construction of the Ram temple will not suffice. We must adhere to the ideals espoused by Lord Ram. The adoption of principled politics is imperative.
In light of BJP’s aspirations to position India as a global leader under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shanta Kumar expressed dismay, stating with tearful eyes, “I find it bewildering that while our nation was once under colonial rule, politics was driven by national interests. However, in independent India, politics seems to revolve solely around power.”
He further expressed sorrow over the fact that his own party has succumbed to this trend. My party should not have veered in this direction, he added.
Responding to media queries about the current political milieu, Shanta Kumar refrained from direct commentary, indicating through gestures the depth of his emotions.
Reflecting on his political journey spanning from 1951-52 and his seven-decade-long association with the Bhartiya Janata Party, Shanta Kumar, now 90 years old, revealed a profound sense of regret. “It pains me to look back and witness the erosion of the values we once held dear,” he said.
Shanta Kumar reminisced about the foundational principles that guided their political endeavors – dedicated service, patriotic fervor, and value-based governance. It is these principles that propelled our modest party to become the world’s largest political entity today. We must not forsake these principles, he emphasized.
