Shimla, June 11
In a financial boost for retirees, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has announced a substantial 4-per cent hike in Dearness Relief (DA) for its pensioners and family pensioners, effective April 1, 2024. This adjustment, raising the DA rate from 34% to 38%, aims to help pensioners cope with inflation and the rising cost of living. The announcement follows the Congress government’s complete rout in the recent Lok Sabha elections and reflects an effort to address pending financial commitments.
According to the official notification (No. HPSEBL (SECTT) R&E/6-156/2023-14280-14360) issued on May 18, 2023, the additional DA will be applied uniformly across all categories of pensioners and family pensioners. Disbursements for the period from April 2024 to June 2024 will be made in July 2024, including arrears from July 1, 2022, to March 31, 2024.
To streamline the process, HPSEB has discontinued the issuance of ready reckoner tables previously used with DA orders. Now, the Pension Disbursing Authority (PDA), including public sector and nationalized banks, will calculate the DA payable. Payment procedures have been refined for simplicity and accuracy, with any fraction of a rupee rounded up to the nearest higher rupee.
The Chief Accounts Officer of HPSEBL in Shimla, along with authorized banks, has been directed to ensure timely payment of the increased DA, marking a significant enhancement in the financial welfare of the pensioners and family pensioners.
