Shimla, July 15,
A Special Police Officer (SPO) Om Prakash, 45, from village Sandhara under Khairi police station in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, allegedly ended his life by shooting himself with a 12 bore gun. The event occurred on Saturday night while he was sleeping on the roof of his house. On receiving the distressing news, a police team from Khairi police station quickly arrived at the scene.
Om Prakash’s body was taken into custody and later handed over to his family after a post-mortem at Civil Hospital Dalhousie on Sunday. Om Prakash, son of Gandharv Singh, was stationed in Khairi. His untimely death has left the local community in shock. The village Sandhara, located near sensitive border areas, has historically faced issues related to militancy. Following a terrorist attack in 1998, the government appointed Special Police Officers (SPOs) to enhance security and monitor these volatile regions. Currently, 407 SPOs are operational in Chamba district, playing a crucial role in maintaining peace and security.
The police continues with investigating and soon the circumstances resulting in this tragic event may unfold.
