State Govt would addresses employment on compassionate ground : CM

On the second day of the Monsoon session in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, a lively debate unfolded between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the provision of employment to the families of deceased government employees.
During the question hour, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu responded to a query from BJP’s Janak Raj by assuring the assembly that the government is attuned to the concerns of these families. He announced the formation of a cabinet subcommittee led by Education Minister Rohit Thakur, which has already convened its first meeting. The Chief Minister expressed hope for a swift resolution, noting that during the Congress party’s year in power, 180 individuals were employed in Class IV positions. He also assured the assembly that the number of families seeking compassionate employment would not be overwhelming.
The Chief Minister addressed the opposition’s criticism, highlighting that the previous BJP government had offered the highest number of compassionate employment opportunities during election years. He invited suggestions from the opposition for inclusion in the subcommittee’s recommendations.
Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur defended the BJP’s track record, stating that during their tenure, more than 4,500 individuals were employed under the scheme. He emphasized that the BJP had amended rules to better support the families of deceased employees.
BJP leaders Randhir Sharma and Dr. Janak Raj also voiced their concerns. Sharma advocated for a fixed upper age limit for eligibility under the scheme, while Raj criticized the formation of the committee, urging the government to accelerate the process of providing employment to affected families.
