Shimla, Sept 4,
The Himachal Pradesh government is committed to providing a favorable environment for industrial growth, with a key incentive being lower electricity tariffs compared to neighboring states.
According to Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, the state is actively working to attract new industries and expand existing ones. A single-window clearance system has been implemented, facilitating the establishment of 409 new projects. These initiatives are expected to generate 410 investments and create employment opportunities for 29,970 people.
The minister also highlighted the state’s efforts to promote industrial development through initiatives like the Mukhmantir Swalambhan Yojana, which has led to the establishment of 300 new units. Additionally, the government has been encouraging industries to register on the Government of India portal and has received requests from 100 units to relocate to Himachal Pradesh.
While acknowledging that some industries have closed their operations, Chauhan emphasized that this is a natural process and attributed the closures to various factors, including the surrender of GST numbers. The minister also noted that the state government has been actively addressing issues related to lease transfers and has identified 100 cases for action.
To further support industries, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced plans to reduce electricity tariffs by one rupee per unit compared to other states. This measure, coupled with ongoing subsidies, aims to create a competitive environment and attract new investments.
However, concerns have been raised by opposition members regarding the feasibility of establishing 5593 new industries within a short period and the potential impact of rising power tariffs on existing industries. Some have expressed concerns about the flight of industries from the state due to increased costs.
The government has acknowledged these concerns and pledged to provide a comprehensive response during the upcoming winter session of the assembly.
