Shimla, Sept 25,
A scorching heatwave swept across Himachal Pradesh in September, shattering historical temperature records and leaving locals and experts stunned. The usually pleasant monsoon months have turned into a sweltering ordeal as temperatures soared to unprecedented levels.
Cities like Shimla, known for its cool climate, experienced maximum temperatures nearing 29°C, a far cry from the typical 24-25°C. Manali, Bhunter, Kangra, Una, and Dharamshala all recorded record-breaking highs, with some areas surpassing 35°C.
-
Shimla: Maximum temperature reached 28.4°C on September 23rd and 24th, just shy of the all-time high of 28.6°C recorded on September 30th, 1994.
-
Manali: Temperatures rose to 27.7°C on September 23rd, marking the second-highest temperature in the last decade.
-
Bhunter: Recorded an all-time high temperature of 35.5°C on September 24th.
-
Kangra: Recorded an all-time high temperature of 35.0°C on September 24th.
-
Una: Registered 38.6°C, matching its highest September temperature from 2020.
-
Dharamshala: Reached 32°C on September 24th.
Meteorologists blame the heatwave on clear skies following months of monsoon rains, causing a rapid increase in temperatures. However, relief is expected as rainfall is forecast to return, bringing temperatures down. This unexpected heatwave serves as a stark warning of the changing climate and its potential long-term impacts on the region.
