Shimla, March 7,
Amid criticism from the Opposition BJP accusing the government of diverting shrine donations for state resources, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the allocation of approximately Rs. 58 crore for the development of infrastructure at Mata Shri Chintpurni Temple in Una district.
The funds, drawn entirely from the state’s own resources, would be utilized for the beautification and upgradation of the temple premises.
According to State government spokesperson the key projects include the construction of a modern queue complex with lift facilities, installation of purified drinking water systems, and comprehensive CCTV coverage to ensure security.
Additionally, a plastic shredder and a solid waste recycling and management plant will be set up to maintain cleanliness and efficiently manage waste. Proper signage and designated shops for local vendors will also be developed to improve the overall pilgrimage experience.
“By prioritizing pilgrim welfare and temple upkeep, the Himachal Pradesh government aims to set a precedent for responsible governance while fostering economic growth through tourism.”
The state government also spending public money to preserving the cultural and architectural heritage of ancient shrines while ensuring the comfort and convenience of devotees, spokesperson said.
Mata Shri Chintpurni Temple, a prominent Shaktipeeth, attracts lakhs of pilgrims annually. The proposed developments aim to make visits more seamless and enjoyable, reinforcing the temple’s significance as a spiritual and cultural hub.
The announcement comes as a direct response to the Opposition’s allegations that Chief Minister are playing with emotions by using 15 percent funds for government expenditure from the Hindu shrine collected from public donations.
The move likely counter the notion of misusing religious offerings rather it focuses on enhancing facilities at one of North India’s most revered Hindu religious centers.
