Shimla, July 28
Water supply in Shimla is likely to remain affected over the next few days following the major snag or failure of a transformer at Stage-II of the Satluj Water Supply Project and heavy silt accumulation and flooding at other water sources.
The Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) said the disruption could impact the city’s water distribution schedule until the damaged transformer is repaired and normal operations are restored.
Apart from the transformer failure, continuous rainfall has led to increased silt levels and flooding at other water sources, affecting water intake and treatment operations.
SJPNL has appealed to residents to use water sparingly during this period and avoid unnecessary consumption so that the available supply can be distributed equitably across the city.
Officials said efforts are underway to restore the transformer and normalize the water supply at the earliest. Consumers have been advised to cooperate with the authorities until the situation improves.
