Night traffic curbs imposed on NH-154A nr Durgathi due to landslide risk
Shimla/Chamba, July 24,
In view of continuous heavy rainfall and the heightened risk of landslides and shooting stones, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bharmour, has ordered the temporary suspension of vehicular traffic on National Highway-154A near Durgathi in Chamba district during the night.
According to the order issued by the SDM, the movement of all vehicles on the Chamba-Bharmour highway (NH-154A) near Durgathi has been prohibited from 8:00 pm on July 23 to 7:00 am on July 24, 2026. The restriction has been imposed following reports from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that the stretch has become highly vulnerable to sudden landslides and falling rocks due to persistent heavy rain.
The administration said the prevailing weather conditions make it difficult to ensure the safety of commuters during night hours without continuous monitoring of the road condition. However, ambulances and other emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass during the restriction period.
The order has been issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, keeping in view public safety and will remain in force until 7:00 am on July 24 unless withdrawn or modified earlier.
NHAI has appealed to commuters to avoid travelling on the affected stretch during the notified period, plan their journeys accordingly, and strictly follow the directions issued by the district administration. Authorities said the restriction is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing accidents in view of the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
