Bishop Cotton School, Shimla (BCS) welcomed Kenneth L Juster during his visit to the school. Here Juster was offered a gift of books on the history of the school, including Ruskin Bond’s book ‘Coming Round the Mountain’ which has a picture of BCS on the front cover. The Ambassdor also gave the Director of BCS a glass paperweight as a gift from the Embassy. Juster said; “It is a great treat to visit Bishop Cotton School and experience the impressive history of this institution.”
Director of the School Simon Weale said; “We are privileged that the US Ambassador wanted to visit Bishop Cotton School at such a key moment in American Politics. He is a keen historian with an appreciation of Shimla’s heritage and felt that he must visit the BCS campus as part of his brief stay here”.
BCS is one of the oldest residential boys’ schools in Asia and has played a key part in shaping the development of public schools and education in India as well as producing a host of well-known and successful alumni. The whole event was set up by Old Cottonian – Kanav Monga, the eminent Delhi businessman.
The school has operated a full academic curriculum online since March. Parents have reported that the children have been missing playing sport with their friends and are yearning to get back on campus in Shimla.
In the afternoon Juster also visited the Shimla police control room who was welcomed by Shimla Police Chief Mohit Chawla. State Government also welcomed US ambassador at Petorhoff yesterday.
The visit of US Ambassador to the state capital Shimla comes at a time when the results of the US Election polls in under way.
