The black Eagle is found commonly in the Himlayan foothills through Nepal into Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir and in the forests of Sri Lanka and peninsular India. Generally resident with no migration the eagle is also known as the ‘bird which never sat down’ by some in Daljeeling district. The eagle eats mammals, birds and eggs. It is a profilic nest predator known for its slow flight over the canophy.
It is a large raptor of about 70-80cm length and 164-178cm wing span, weighs around 1000gm to 1600gm. Adults have a ll black plumage, with a yellow bill base and feet.
