According to official sources, two youths — Mubarik and Shoaib — who were working at a local barber shop, allegedly developed contact with the girl over the past few months. They reportedly took her to a rented room in the village with the assistance of a woman.
The girl’s mother, having noticed unusual communication between her daughter and the accused, had previously taken the girl back to their native village. However, on the night of April 7, the minor went missing from her residence.
After searching through the night without success, the family reported the matter to the police on April 8. Acting swiftly, police launched an investigation, interrogated suspects, and successfully located the girl in a nearby rented room.
DSP Anni, Chandrashekhar Kayath, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The girl has undergone medical examination and is receiving counselling through the Child Welfare Committee.
The incident has triggered concern and anger among local residents. Local panchayat representatives and social organizations condemned the incident and have urged strict action against those involved.
Karn Pal Sharma, Vice President of Bro Panchayat, stated that such incidents are deeply concerning and highlighted the need for stronger community awareness and vigilance.
Meanwhile, some local shops were reportedly closed following the incident. Officials have appealed to the public to maintain peace and allow law enforcement to complete the investigation.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s district representative Vishnu Sharma also called for stern action and emphasized the importance of maintaining social harmony.
Amid rising concerns, residents have demanded mandatory police verification for individuals coming from outside the region for employment, particularly to safeguard minors.
Police authorities have assured that all angles are being thoroughly investigated, and appropriate legal action will be taken.
