An urgent advisory has been issued by the State Disaster Management Authority due to the rapid increase in water and silt levels in the Beas River, exacerbated by recent heavy rains during the monsoon season. The Pandoh and Larji Dams are set to open their floodgates to manage the excessive silt accumulation, prompting warnings to the public to stay away from the riverbanks.
Residents along the Beas River are particularly advised to avoid the river during this period. Parents are urged to keep children and animals away from the water to prevent accidents. The advisory emphasizes the potential for a sudden rise in water levels, which could pose significant dangers.

The alert follows a similar pattern to last year’s monsoon, which caused significant damage due to flooding. This year, the situation is compounded by three cloudbursts affecting the tributaries of the Beas and Satluj rivers, including Ghanavi and Malana, pushing various power projects and dams to high alert status.
Residents have been reminded of the historical patterns, noting that while these rivers remain relatively calm during the monsoon and winter seasons, the water levels can rise dramatically due to melting snowfall. This unpredictable nature necessitates heightened vigilance during periods of heavy rainfall.
