Shimla, May 1
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Himachal Pradesh Police has been placed under suspension after a video surfaced allegedly showing him kicking a bike-borne youth during the President’s movement in Shimla on Friday morning.
According to initial reports, traffic restrictions were imposed across several parts of the city due to the high-security movement, leading to removal of vehicles parked along key routes. The incident reportedly occurred near Tavi Mor, where the youth had parked his car and motorcycle along the roadside.
Eyewitness accounts and the viral video suggest that the ASI asked the youth, identified as Ashish Kumar, a taxi driver, to remove both vehicles. The youth allegedly informed the officer that he was alone and could move only one vehicle at a time. This led to an argument between the two.
During the exchange, the youth reportedly asked the officer for his name, which further agitated the ASI. In the video clip circulating on social media, the officer is seen kicking the youth, triggering widespread criticism over police conduct.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Shimla Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh ordered the immediate suspension of the ASI and initiated a departmental inquiry. Police officials stated that appropriate disciplinary action would follow based on the findings of the probe.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with social media users questioning the use of force by law enforcement personnel, particularly during routine traffic enforcement. Authorities have assured that accountability will be fixed and due process followed.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
