Shimla, Nov 19,
BJP State President Rajiv Bindal on Tuesday declined to respond to media questions regarding two ongoing cases in which his elder brother and Churah MLA Hans Raj have been named in separate complaints filed by women in Solan and Chamba districts. The questions were raised during a press conference in Shimla, where a woman journalist sought Bindal’s reaction to public concerns over repeated allegations surfacing against senior party leaders in the state.
The journalist referred to a past case involving Bindal’s elder brother in Solan, and the recent accusations levelled by a 21-year-old woman against MLA Hans Raj in Chamba. She asked whether the BJP leadership would articulate a position on the increasing number of such cases and on issues of accountability within the organisation.
Bindal did not address the broader concerns. Briefly commenting on the legal proceedings, he said both matters were before the court and expressed confidence that “the court will separate milk from water.” He did not comment further on either case or on the larger issue of safety and grievance redressal for women in the state.
The matter involving Churah MLA Hans Raj has recently gained attention after the MLA issued a public apology over remarks made against the complainant, which sparked criticism in parts of the Baddi industrial area. The Jal Shakti Department also restored water supply to the complainant’s residence after intervention by CPI(M) representatives, following allegations that it had been discontinued under pressure—an allegation the department has not publicly confirmed.
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, who was present alongside Bindal at the press conference, also chose not to comment on the cases.
Opposition parties, women’s groups, and civil society organisations have urged transparency in the ongoing inquiries and called for the matters to be handled strictly in accordance with law. Both cases continue to be examined through formal legal processes, and no findings have yet been established.
