BJP storms Solan Municipal Corporation: Sushma Sharma elected Mayor, Gaurav Rajput deputy Mayor
Solan, July 2,
In a stunning political coup that has sent shockwaves through the ruling congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today succeeded in breaching the ruling Congress party’s stronghold to capture the Solan Municipal Corporation (MC).
In a high-stakes, dramatic showdown, the BJP’s Sushma Sharma was triumphantly elected as the new Mayor, while independent Gaurav Rajput secured the chair of Deputy Mayor.
The victory marks a historic shift in local governance and stands as a major embarrassment for the ruling Congress regime, leaving local MLA Dhani Ram Chandel and the party brass red-faced on their own home turf. Shandil alongwith DCC president Subhash Varmani, Surender Sethi, Sanjay Shandil, Ramesh thakur and others were also present in MC complex.
The script of this political thriller was quietly but flawlessly orchestrated by BJP State President Rajiv Bindal. Displaying masterful political craftsmanship, widely being hailed as Chanakya-Neeti, Bindal systematically wove a tight strategic fabric that completely trapped the ruling party. Out of a total 17 seats, BJP has won 10 seats while one seat was won by independent.

While the Congress camp remained comfortable after failing in securing the majority, Bindal and his core strategists were busy securing the numbers, engineering a flawless voting or realignment script that left the local Congress leadership completely blind-sided when the ballots were cast.
For the local MLA Dhani Ram Shandil and the ruling Congress party, the loss is an absolute catastrophe. Solan MC was considered an impregnable fortress for the ruling dispensation.
The sudden shift in power proves that the Congress has lost its grip, exposing deep fissures, factionalism, and lack of coordination within the party platform.
Observers note that this victory gives the BJP complete control over the urban local body, completely undermining the administrative influence of the local MLA just as key development policies are being drafted.
Soon after her crowning as mayor amidst a sea of saffron flags , newly elected Mayor Sushma Sharma who had won her election fourth time from ward no 2 thanked the leadership and promised a new dawn for Solan.
”This is a victory of the people of Solan and the organizational strength of the BJP. We will work tirelessly to rescue the city from the administrative stagnation it has faced under Congress rule,” she stated.
Deputy Mayor Gaurav Rajput who had contested as an independent candidate from ward no 3 echoed her sentiments, adding that the youth and citizens of Solan have finally received the leadership they deserved.
With Rajiv Bindal successfully “capturing the fort,” the political landscape of the entire district has dramatically altered overnight.
The victory is being seen as a launchpad for the BJP’s resurgence in the state, proving that despite being out of power at the state level, Bindal’s micro-management remains lethal enough to collapse ruling majorities.
As the BJP celebrates its new commanders in the Solan MC, a somber silence has enveloped the Congress camp, where the blame-game over this massive intelligence and tactical failure has already begun, particularly after the electorates have shoed the door to congress in MC elections.
