Shimla, June 10
In a recent move to bolster the support system for athletes, the State Government has announced significant enhancements to both diet allowances and travel provisions for sportspersons.
This follows the earlier increase in prize money for medal winners in international championships. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made these announcements, highlighting the government’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent within the state.
The government has increased diet allowances across various levels of competition. For state-level events, the diet money has been raised from Rs. 240 to Rs. 400. District-level participants will now receive Rs. 300, and block-level athletes will get Rs. 240.
Athletes participating in out-of-state events will benefit from a significant increase to Rs. 500. Additionally, athletes residing in sports hostels will receive Rs. 250 at the elementary education level and Rs. 400 at higher levels.
These enhancements aim to provide better nutrition, essential for athletes’ performance and overall health. By ensuring athletes have access to adequate dietary support, the government is addressing a critical component of athletic training and success.
In a substantial move to ease the logistical challenges faced by athletes, the government has also upgraded travel provisions. Athletes traveling up to 200 kilometers for events will now be provided with AC-3 Tier train fare.
For those traveling beyond 200 kilometers, the provision has been elevated to economy class airfare.
Comfortable and convenient travel is crucial for athletes who often have to compete in different locations, and this support can make a meaningful difference in their preparation and readiness for competitions.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that these measures underscore the state’s commitment to supporting and encouraging its athletes.
By improving training conditions and participation incentives, the government aims to nurture the skills of sportspersons and foster excellence in their respective sports.
This holistic approach not only benefits current athletes but also inspires future generations to pursue sports, knowing they will be supported and valued.
These steps are a testament to the State Government’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for athletes to excel, ultimately contributing to the state’s proud sporting legacy.
