Shimla, Jan 19,
In a major boost to Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare infrastructure, the State Cabinet on Monday approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art Cancer Care Centre at Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur.
The Cabinet cleared the creation of 11 new departments within the proposed Cancer Care Centre along with sanctioning and filling of all required posts, paving the way for comprehensive oncology services closer to patients’ homes.
Strengthening tertiary healthcare further, the Cabinet also approved the construction of eight additional blocks at AIIMS Bilaspur.
In another significant decision impacting thousands of aspirants, the Cabinet amended the Assistant Staff Nurse recruitment policy, expanding the age limit from the earlier 21–32 years to 18–45 years, with an additional five-year relaxation for SC/ST and other eligible categories. The move is expected to widen employment opportunities in the health sector and address staff shortages.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Senior Resident Doctor Policy, reserving 66.66 per cent seats for in-service GDOs/MOs and 33.33 per cent for direct candidates, with interchangeable allocation in case of non-availability—an attempt to balance experience with fresh recruitment.
