Shimla, Dec 25,
A group of concerned candidates has issued an urgent appeal to the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) to postpone the upcoming examination scheduled for 29th December 2024. The plea comes in the wake of severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, that have disrupted transportation and infrastructure across the region.
The recent snowfall on 22nd and 23rd December has already led to the blockage of several key roads, making travel treacherous, particularly in hilly areas. According to weather forecasts, additional snowfall is expected on 27th and 28th December, just before the scheduled exam date. These conditions are likely to worsen, posing significant challenges for candidates traveling to Shimla, the exam center.
Adding to the difficulties, Shimla is hosting the annual Winter Carnival, a major tourist attraction that has further strained local resources. The influx of tourists has led to a shortage of accommodations and increased traffic congestion, leaving candidates with limited options for staying and commuting safely during the exam period.
Candidates argue that the current circumstances not only jeopardize their safety but also compromise the fairness of the examination process. Many aspirants from remote areas and districts affected by heavy snowfall face logistical challenges, including blocked roads and lack of transport options.
In their collective appeal, the candidates stated, ‘Considering the severe weather conditions and the ongoing Winter Carnival, it is highly impractical and unsafe for candidates to appear for the exam. We request the HPPSC to reschedule the exam to ensure equal opportunity and safety for all aspirants,” they added.
With the HPPSC exam being a significant milestone for aspirants aiming for government positions, the authorities’ response to this appeal will have a lasting impact on the candidates and their future prospects.
Stay tuned for more updates as response from the Public service commission is awaited in the matter.
